Our Unfortunate Series of Events... at Target

Date: Last Saturday night.
Time: approx. 9pm
Place: Target parking lot

We pulled into the parking lot. I had been driving my mom's car, so I handed her the keys before I got out. I got into the trunk to get my wallet. E was pulling R out of his car seat, and my mom (who had been in the front passenger seat) was putting her hoodie on. We all entered Target. We made our purchases and left. When we got back into the car, my mom noticed that the arm rest was broken in her car.
Once we made it home, we realized that the diaper bag was missing. We called the restaurant we had eaten at. We sent my brother to check the parking lot of said restaurant. We called another brother to check his truck. No bag. After some conversation, we realized that someone must have broken into the car, ripped the arm rest and stolen the diaper bag. With all 3 of us doing stuff as we got out, chances are that we didn't lock it. The thing that is most odd about this is that my mom ALWAYS locks her car. Even before my dad has a chance to get out sometimes. My mom and E hopped into the car, and ran to the Target parking lot to see if the culprit had realized that it was a diaper bag, and dumped it. They did find a wallet.
Mom and E went to the police department to file a report. The officer called to file the report said that they had picked up someone earlier. A woman had exited Target about 9:30 to find someone in her car. The victim was able to get the license plate number of the woman, and she was picked up later. Unfortunately, our stuff was not with her. She was said to be intoxicated.

Date: Last Sunday
Time: During the day
Place: Our home
I realized that my cell phone was missing. A call to my mom to verified that it was not in her car (which IS where I had left it.) A call to our provider shut off the phone, and verified that a text message had been sent that day.

Date: Yesterday
Time: All day long
Place: Here
A detective has been put in charge of the case. We've been on the phone with him back and forth, and with our cell provider back and forth trying to get the text message #. The culprit has said that she only broke into one car, but other people have called and none of their stuff matches what was found on her.

We really didn't lose much. My diaper bag was my most expensive christmas present I received (less than a month ago.) There were books, a couple cars, and a sippy cup. My phone was new in June. We didn't buy an extended warranty or protection plan, so we're on our own with that. The damage to the car is minimal. We are really lucky that not much was lost and we're all safe...but it's still a bummer.
